At Haas & Wilkerson Insurance, we take our commitment to our culture and the Kansas City community seriously—so seriously that we don’t leave that commitment to chance. We leave it to some MIGHTY DUCKS! Yes, I said MIGHTY, and yes, I said DUCKS! What started as a social committee many years ago has morphed into a six-person team that serves not only as the driver of all team celebrations and community activities but also serves as an important liaison between our staff and leadership team. In my mind, one of the biggest rules for any family is that you always take care of each another. Through thick and thin, a family should always have each other's collective back. And because we pride ourselves on being a big family at Haas & Wilkerson Insurance, it's always been important to have people on our team who follow the same philosophy.
Carol Porter, one of the producers in our fair and festival division, is probably one of the people who best embodies the role of caretaker in our organization. From her commitment to taking care of clients to the positive energy she brings to work each day, Carol is such a warm and caring member of our agency. Plus. Carol's always inspired our team as as a woman who has really carved out her own pathway to success in a field where men have often been the majority. Check out our recent interview with Carol.
In our last team spotlight, we featured an interview with one of our team members who’s been with us longer than anyone else. This week, we’re highlighting someone who comes a close second in terms of Haas & Wilkerson Insurance tenure.
David Garrett, a producer for our amusement division, has been with our agency for more than 30 years. Even more impressive, David’s experience in the amusement industry extends way beyond that. David put himself through college working summers with a carnival that toured around New England. After graduation, he jumped into the industry full-time until he joined the insurance world in the ’80s. We’ve been extremely lucky to have David’s knowledge and expertise as a part of our agency for as long as we have. Our team has always been a big part of our success, and David is no exception. I had a chance to sit down with David recently:
Just a few weeks ago at our monthly Accelerant breakfast, I had the pleasure of introducing our guests to Girls on the Run, a nonprofit program for girls in the 3rd through 8th grades. Girls on the Run uses running to motivate girls and build confidence through accomplishment. Through my own experience teaching and mentoring many young women in my educational background, I know just how much confidence and purpose that participating in programs like this can provide. With their commitment to mentorship and running buddies system, Girls on the Run does an awesome job of enabling young women to reach their goals. The organization is a great example of how a community coming together to look out for one another can make a big difference in the lives of many individuals. The breakfast got me to thinking about how many levels of community that our own organization is involved in.
Ah, February. It's the month of Valentines, eating way too much chocolate, and hopefully, the last of the snow. Apart from the sugar high we're all getting in the office from left over Valentine's candy, there's another reason that February has us buzzing: postseason college basketball!
Late February rivalry games and conference championships always get our members of the Haas & Wilkerson Insurance family feeling a bit competitive. And with March Madness right around the corner, everyone is ready to show their team spirit and revel in the upsets, buzzer-beaters, and thrills of the NCAA Tournament.
Luckily for us, one of our clients provides us with a bunch of different ways to represent our alma maters and adopted teams (not to mention the Royals, Chiefs and others). Because they always make our sports seasons a little more fun, we're really happy to have Rally House on our team.
I love working at Haas & Wilkerson Insurance for many reasons, but one of the biggest is the people I work with. One of the things that makes our agency unique is our people-first philosophy, and I think it really makes a big difference in how much everyone looks forward to coming to work each day.
This week, I’d like to take some time to highlight one of those people who makes Haas & Wilkerson Insurance such an excellent place to work. He's a crucial part of our team, and does so much to make our agency a better place.
